I have heard about Lake Louise for about 20 years........from my dad.....and my aunt......They have both waxed eloquently about how beautiful it is and how wonderful the scenery is and how they would go there someday. I really didn't think much about the place since Greg and I have traveled so much during our many journeys and have seen so many beautiful places. So, when my husband announced that we were going to Banff and Lake Louise, I mentioned the trip to my aunt and dad, with not much enthusiasm.....Norma, my aunt, asked if she could accompany us and of course, we were thrilled that one of our family members would be coming with us. I did not understand why she was soooo excited........She said this might be the only time she could travel to this place that she had always dreamed of going. I have to say......I now understand her excitement and love for Lake Louise.
Never mind the fact that her name is Norma Louise and I was named after her...Robin Louise. Let me say that I have never really cared for my middle name but this recent trip to one of Canada's hidden treasures made me proud to carry the name. I now consider my name to be one of the most beautiful, just because of the lake which bears the same name as my aunt and me.
This is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen and I have seen a few! Victoria Glacier is a site that is so majestic, it cannot be fully described without being there. Lake Louise reflects Victoria Glacier and its color is a mix of blues, greens, and aqua, where the glacier has calved pieces into the water over many years. Avalanches occur frequently, due to the steep terrain and we were lucky enough to experience one while we canoed on the lake. We thought it was thunder, as we had never experienced an avalanche in person.
Lake Louise did not disappoint and the total experience was awe inspiring. I am so glad that my Aunt Norma was able to join us. I am looking forward to taking my dad in a couple of years so he can see the place that bears my name......My mom was pretty smart for naming me! Enjoy our photos of this wonderful place!
